This really doesn't surprise or concern me, as alarming as it appears. I would expect that any website that you once had an account at would do the same thing: Deactivate rather than delete.

I would ask "Is it reasonable to ask that my existence and history of actions be erased?" Every time you log in, every time you interact with another user, every time you change your settings you're making ripples of file changes. Undoing all of that could be difficult and have liability repercussions if anything is disputed. In the business of Information Technology, the game is to hold onto all the information you can get.

What can we learn from this as users? Don't put ANY information out on the 'net that you don't want people to know. You can never take it back.
